ABSTRACT
The positive effect of exercise on cancer prevention and as a therapeutic modality during and after anti-neoplastic treatment is well described, and it is predicted that overall exercise and physical activity will decrease during and perhaps after the novel coronavirus known as SARS CoV2 (COVID-19) global pandemic. Across the United States and throughout the world there have been widespread social distancing protocols that vary in intensity and include regional lockdowns. To mitigate viral spread, many gyms closed and in-person exercise classes were cancelled or rescheduled to online versions. Parks, schools, and other recreational areas have restricted access to individuals looking to use them for walking, running, hiking, tennis, basketball, and other types of exercise. Social distancing protocols have encouraged people to work from home and avoid social activities-thereby shrinking people’s usual universe to the perimeter of their home and immediate surroundings. How this will affect cancer prevention, treatment, and outcomes is unknown but deeply concerning.
