ABSTRACT
Acupuncture (AP) is one of the most promising and exciting areas in oncology, as demonstrated by expanding clinical research on AP in the last decades. Current data suggest that it can give positive results in numerous clinical conditions, be safe, and not burden patients with an additional pharmacological burden in treating disorders related to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Recent research has focused on some areas, such as cancer pain, chemotherapy- and radiotherapy-related side-effects, such as nausea and vomiting, leukopenia, xerostomia, hot ashes, and asthenia. In this short review, we report the most signi cant experiences on this issue and the barriers that still slow down AP’s full inclusion in the mainstream of Western medicine.
