ABSTRACT
This case report discusses the impact of Graston Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) in the management of unilateral post-mastectomy lymphedema. Post-breast cancer surgery lymphedema is a common complication that causes chronic swelling, pain, and impairment of function. Although conventional treatments like Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) are widely documented, more recent interventions like IASTM have proven to be useful for lymphatic drainage and healing of tissue.
In this case, a 60-year-old female patient with Stage 2 post-mastectomy lymphedema was treated with CDT along with the Graston technique for a period of four weeks. The findings showed considerable reduction in limb circumference, alleviation of pain, and range of motion. This case indicates that Graston IASTM may prove to be an effective complement to standard lymphedema treatments and hence deserves further studies in larger trials.
